My daughter always complain that I pamper the grandchildren too much especially her eldest son, who happens to be our first grandson. His name is Huzaifah, Ujai for short. We have four grandchildren, all boys and one is on the way. With Allah's grace she is a girl. But Doctors can be wrong . Just like when my daughter was told her first born would be a girl, but it turned out to be a boy. But Alhamdulillah, all Praises be to Allah, boy or girl is most welcomed.
Actually there is no intention to pamper our grandchildren. It may look that way. Having gone through with them for four years now, I would say we don't manja them. But because we are not as fit as we were ten years ago, we let things happen. We would say no to their whims and fancies, but in the end we let it happen, only with minor modification, because we do not have the stamina to be "fighting" them. Sometime we "bribe" them so we do not have to run around pulling them by their arm to make sure they do as we ask them to do. But we turn out to be loosers. Our daughter insists that we manja them.
So what the heck, I thought. Maybe we should let her do what she thinks is fit. We ought to just stay away and visit them once in a while, not that we have nothing to do. But we thought we were doing a favor.
Time has changed. Yesterday is not today. The idea of an extended family caring for grandchildren is now accepted with reservation. Blame nobody. Lifestyle has changed, mind set is now different and family values too may differ. May Allah show the right way. There are many books on parenting, on child development , on child social skills etc, etc. so I will rest here.
